Drum Cooler
Efficient and durable cooling equipment

Drum Cooler Overview
Drum cooler is a commonly used cooling equipment in industry for cooling high temperature materials. The equipment achieves the effect of heat transfer and cooling by the rotating movement of the drum, which makes the materials tumble in the drum and contact with the cooling air.

Features and Advantages of Drum Cooler
Features and Advantages
Highly efficient cooling
The reason why the cooling performance of the drum cooler is so high is that during drum rotation, the material rolls continuously and evenly and comes into full contact with the cooling medium.
Simple structure
The equipment is compact and well-designed, making installation and operational processes such as inspection, cleaning, maintenance and replacement of parts easier.
High processing capacity
The large internal space of the drum cooler and the reasonable layout of the drum can accommodate a large amount of materials, so that the machine can process more materials per unit of time.
Uniform cooling
During rotation, the material is continuously rolled and agitated in the drum, coming into contact with the cooling medium in all directions. This ensures that each particle is cooled uniformly.
Highly adaptable
Drum coolers are extremely adaptable to materials and can be used to cool materials of different shapes and properties. Whether granular, powdered or lumpy.
Energy saving
Drum coolers offer significant advantages in terms of energy utilisation. They utilise natural air as a cooling medium and do not require significant additional energy to generate cool air.

Structure Composition of Drum Cooler
Structure Composition
Roller body
As the core component, the drum body is a hollow cylindrical structure. The interior is carefully designed, for example, with special copings or spiral deflectors.
Cooling system
The cooling system is equipped with a fan and an air guide, which generates enough airflow to keep a large amount of cold air flowing into the interior of the drum.
Transmission
The transmission device consists of motor, reducer and other components, the motor brings power to drive the drum rotation. The speed reducer is responsible for regulating the speed.
Support structure
The support structure bears the important responsibility of supporting the drum and plays an indispensable role in maintaining the stable operation of the whole equipment.

Working Principle of Drum Cooler
Working Principle
When the drum cooler is working, the high-temperature material enters the drum from the feed port, and the drum rotates slowly under the action of the transmission device. The internal lifting plate lifts and drops the material as the drum rotates, causing the material to tumble. At the same time, the cooling medium, such as cold air, enters from one end, fully contacts the material for heat exchange, takes away the heat to achieve cooling, and the cooled material is discharged from the discharge port, and the cooling medium is discharged from the exhaust port.
Drum Cooler Application Scenarios
Application Scenarios
Fertiliser production
In the fertiliser industry, compound fertilisers and organic fertilisers need to be cooled after being made into granules, and the rotary drum cooler can reduce the temperature of the granules quickly and effectively.
Production of feed pellets
During the production of pelletised feed, freshly pressed pellets usually carry a certain amount of heat. Cooling with a rotary drum cooler allows the pellets to quickly reach the proper storage temperature.
Chemical industry
In the chemical industry, a large number of common chemical products, such as polyethylene and urea, need to be cooled, and with drum coolers, these products can be cooled precisely to the required temperature range.
Mining and metallurgy
Mining and metallurgy involves, among other things, the high-temperature extraction and processing of ores, powders or sintered blocks. Drum coolers are designed to cool these materials.
Drum Cooler Buying Guide
Buying Guide
Define your needs
Before selecting a drum cooler, it is necessary to determine the type of material (granules, powder, etc.), the initial temperature and the target temperature.
Determine the cooling method
Select the cooling medium (air or water). Air cooling is suitable for energy-saving scenarios, while water cooling is more suitable for high temperature or rapid cooling requirements.
Core technical parameters
Focusing on parameters such as drum diameter, length and speed ensures that the equipment meets target temperature differentials and cooling cycle requirements, while evaluating energy consumption.
Material and durability
Roller material, stainless steel is suitable for scenes with high corrosion resistance requirements, while carbon steel is more cost-effective. Roller liners and anti-corrosion coatings extend the life of the equipment.
Automation and control
Preferred coolers are equipped with a PLC automated control system that monitors temperatures and adjusts parameters in real time. Units with temperature sensors allow for precise control of the cooling effect.
Supplier and after-sales service
Choose suppliers that support non-standard customisation. Pay attention to whether the after-sales service is perfect, including installation and commissioning, operation training and spare parts supply.
Frequently Asked Questions.
Drum coolers are suitable for a wide range of materials, including granules, powders and small lumps. Common applications include feed pellets, fertiliser pellets, cement powders, mineral powders and more.
Cooling effectiveness is usually measured by material outlet temperature and cooling time. Generally, the outlet temperature should be close to ambient or meet specific process requirements, and the cooling time depends on productivity and material type.
Maintenance of the Drum Cooler is relatively simple and consists of regularly checking the lubrication of the rotating parts of the drum, cleaning the cooling medium pipework and monitoring the sealing parts for wear and tear.
The energy consumption of the equipment depends mainly on the drum speed, the fan power of the cooling medium and the size of the production. Drum Coolers are generally more energy efficient than other cooling equipment and support energy-saving designs (e.g. optimised air flow paths). When selecting a model, consult the energy efficiency parameters and choose a model with lower operating costs.
Huaxin Machinery can customise drum sizes, materials, cooling modes and control systems to suit the production process. Customisation options include higher wear-resistant materials, anti-corrosion treatments and automation configurations to meet specific industry needs.
