Equipment Configuration of Straw Pellet Production Line
Equipment Configuration
Raw material receiving and pre-processing
- Raw material storage site for straw pellet production: Choose open-air or covered storage with hardened ground and full drainage to stop straw from molding or rotting in rain. This is key for high-quality straw pellet raw material preservation.
- High-strength belt conveyor for straw pellet line: These use wear-resistant rubber belts (400-800 mm wide, length customized to your site) to move straw from storage to production smoothly—keeping continuous straw pellet production flow going.
- Bucket elevator for straw vertical lifting: Lifts straw 8 to 20 meters high (bucket sizes 0.3 to 1.5 cubic meters, picked for your production capacity). It feeds low-level straw to crushers and dryers, so the seamless straw pellet production process stays on track.
- Specialized straw crusher for primary crushing: Designed specifically for straw’s unique physical traits (with hammer or blade crushing parts), it quickly breaks whole straw bales into 10-50 mm pieces. This is the first step to getting uniform straw pellet granulation.
- Ring hammer/tooth claw crusher for fine crushing: Takes the straw pieces and grinds them down to 1-5 mm uniform powder—critical for making sure consistent straw pellet density and strength.
- Vibrating screen for straw impurity removal: Sifts through crushed straw to get rid of dirt, oversized pieces, and foreign objects. This ensures only clean, uniform raw materials make it to the straw pellet granulation stage.
Drying
Rotary dryer for straw pellet raw material drying: Made with heavy-duty carbon steel or stainless steel cylinders (set at an angle) and internal lifting plates. As the cylinder spins, straw mixes fully with hot air for fast drying—this is how we hit the moisture control for straw pellet production target (10-18% moisture).
Airflow dryer (optional) for high-speed straw drying: Uses high-speed hot air to “fluidize” straw, drying it instantly. It’s fast, efficient, and works with all kinds of straw—perfect for large-scale continuous straw pellet production.
Pelletizing
- Ring die pelletizer (core straw pellet mill): This is the heart of straw pellet production. It’s built with tough alloy steel ring dies (4-10 mm precision holes) and pressure rollers, transmission, feeding, and tempering systems. It presses dense custom-diameter straw pellets for both industrial and residential use.
- Flat die pelletizer (optional): Simple design, lower cost—great for small production lines or if you don’t need super precise pellet shapes. It’s a solid choice for small-scale straw pellet production.
Cooling and screening
- Counterflow cooler for straw pellet cooling: Has cooling air ducts, material channels, fans, and control systems that work together. Cold air flows the opposite way of hot pellets, cooling them down to near room temperature. This boosts straw pellet stability and water resistance, so pellets hold up during storage and transport.
Air-cooled cooler (optional): Uses fans to blow cold air through ducts, cooling pellets as they move through the system. It’s a budget-friendly option for medium-scale straw pellet production lines. - Multi-layer vibrating screen for straw pellet screening: Uses stainless steel mesh or punched plates (sized to your finished pellet specs) to sift out bad pellets, fine powder, and clumps. This ensures uniform straw pellet quality and a high pass rate for your final product.
Bagging
- Automatic quantitative bagging machine for straw pellets: Adjusts packaging sizes quickly (accuracy within ±0.2%) to match what the market needs. Every bag is the right weight, cutting down on errors and keeping customers happy—key for commercial straw pellet sales.
- Palletising equipment for straw pellet packaging: Automatic robots or mechanical palletisers stack bagged pellets onto pallets neatly. This makes warehousing and forklift handling easy, which is a big win for bulk straw pellet distribution.
Production Process of Straw Pellet Production Line
Production Process
1. Raw material receiving and pre-treatment for straw pellet production
Straw raw materials—corn straw, wheat straw, rice straw, elephant grass, alfalfa—are brought to the factory’s receiving area. They’re inspected for quality and sorted first, then sent to pre-processing via belt conveyors and bucket elevators. Straw crushers break them into short pieces, then fine crushers grind them into uniform powder. Vibrating screens remove any oversized bits or impurities—so you end up with high-purity straw pellet raw materials.
2. Drying for optimal straw pellet moisture content
Pretreated straw is moved to the drying area and put into dryers. We adjust drying temperature and time based on the straw’s initial moisture and what the final product needs. Using steam, hot air furnaces, or gas for heating, hot air mixes fully with the straw to evaporate moisture quickly—getting it down to 10-18%, which meets the granulation-stage moisture requirements for straw pellet production and ensures pellets form properly.
3. Pellet making (core straw pellet manufacturing step)
The dried raw materials enter the pellet mill through the conveying equipment. In the pellet mill, the raw materials are first tempered by the tempering device, and an appropriate amount of binder (such as lignin, starch, etc.) and water are added to make the raw materials have appropriate humidity and viscosity. Then, under the strong pressure of the ring die and the pressure roller, they are squeezed through the die holes on the ring die to form dense straw pellets.
4. Cooling and screening for straw pellet quality assurance
Hot pellets from the mill go to the cooling area, where countercurrent or air-cooled coolers bring them down to near room temperature. This makes pellets more stable and water-resistant. After cooling, vibrating screens sift out unqualified pellets, fine powder, and clumps—boosting straw pellet qualification rate and market competitiveness.
5. Bagging for commercial straw pellet distribution
Qualified pellets are sent to the packaging area and into automatic quantitative bagging machines, where they’re weighed and bagged to your specs. The bags are sealed by a sewing machine, then palletising equipment stacks them onto pallets to form stable units. This makes forklift handling and warehouse management easy—perfect for bulk straw pellet supply chains.
Raw Material Type of Straw Pellet Production Line
Raw material type
Corn straw for premium straw pellet production
High yield, high fiber content, and good toughness/strength—ideal for making high-calorific-value straw pellets that burn well.
Wheat straw for blended straw pellet production
Mix it with other straws to tweak straw pellet physical properties and combustion characteristics, making the fuel perform better.
Rice straw for straw pellet production
Usually has high moisture and silicon content, so it needs full drying and pretreatment to make quality rice straw pellets with low ash content.
Other straws for cost-effective straw pellet production
Sorghum straw, soybean straw, elephant grass, damson grass, alfalfa—these work as supplementary raw materials for diversified straw pellet production, cutting down on raw material costs.
